Evening ride on 3 speed to blow out the cobwebs. I spent the day getting ready to travel to Northern California tomorrow. I will leave as early as I can get myself going. I am going to Tulare tomorrow, 300 miles, about the limit on this bike given the short days.

Decent ride on a cool day. The plants at Park HQ are starting to recover from the long hot summer: I have been working on my Ural the last 2 afternoons: fluids change, new oil filter o-ring, new engine oil drain plug washer, new spark plugs, fuel filters, air pipes and new Duro front tire. I am happy to say I was able to mount the new tire myself. The bike is running well and hopefully the new o-ring a drain plug washer will stop the annoying oil leaks. I also took it to the car wash and sprayed off the oil and gunk from the engine and rear end and rinsed the whole bike off at home. Last night I set up a table and started the winter jigsaw puzzle fest.

Pleasant ride on a temperate afternoon. A lady pulled out and nearly hit me near Rite-Aid. I was watching her and she looked at something before she pulled out. I am not sure if she was checking for cars coming from the right or if she was looking at something inside the car. Either way she failed to notice me before she moved. I was right in front of her when she gunned it. Fortunately I had enough speed and just enough time to get out of her way because I am not sure she was ever aware of my presence.

Short ride to give beat up old legs a break. A beautiful evening. When I got home from yesterday's ride I moved the handlebars down and forward. I have gotten comfortable riding in a more laid out posture on my 3 speed. Yesterday: Today:

First time on this route since 4/10/2014. It went well considering I have not had a ride over 12 miles between 4/10 and about 3 days ago. Before I started my weather station showed NE at 0 but when I got out on the road I encountered a moderate Easterly breeze. It was not fun going out but the ride back into town was relatively easy. There is seldom an E wind on that stretch of road. The wall thermometer is gone from the airport patio but otherwise all is the same. A good ride!

Beautiful fall day, clear, high 70s, mild NW breeze. Rode to Park HQ then up and around past the casino and over to Highway 62 at Rite-Aid. I worked my way north to 2 Mile Road then took it to Mesquite Springs to Raymond to Adobe to Amboy and home. Bike is working well. Good ride! Changed from straight mountain to double sided pedals when I go home. It is nice to have the option to un-clip and use platform side on longer rides and I plan on doing some.

First ride on road bike for many months (April 10th). I think this is the first ride on the new Schwalby Lugano rear tire. I have read complaints about Schwalby tires being too stiff and unresponsive but it seems fine to me. Most of my riding is straight ahead which may make a difference in perception. I intend to start doing more distance and want more gears for the steep parts. A brisk NW wind today. New Dewalt lithuim drill/driver in tool kit under construction. New cheap Harbor Freight accessories for my drill/driver tool kit.
