Part I

I suited up and set out to ride the Baseline Loop for about an hour. I noticed the front tire was low as I was leaving home and assumed it was a slow leak and put air in it and took off. I got to the road into the elementary school off Utah (about 1.2 mile from home, 2.2 into the ride) and discovered the tire was flat. I elected to inflate it and try to make it home rather than attempting to patch the tube in the dirt and in the brisk West wind by the side of the road. It can be hard to find a small hole in a tube without the aid of a water dunking especially in the wind when you can hear nothing either so it is best done at home. It is customary to carry a spare tube and take the bad one home to patch later but these wheels use Schrader valve tubes (automotive type) and I have no spares. I do have some Schrader to Presta adapters on order and I will replace the tubes with Presta valved versions when they are finished but for now I will must patch them. I made it home, found the leak, patched the tube and put it back on with the Stop Flat Strip which had come this afternoon. After sitting around or awhile I decided to ride around the area here in my street clothing.

Part II

I started about 6:00 but soon discovered the West wind had picked up quite a bit (along with the temperature dropping) and that it was going to be no fun beating back and forth in it so I decided to head south to Luckie Park and make a substantial part of the ride cross wind at least. When I got to Luckie I decided I might as well keep going to JTNP HQ. I noticed on the way up that the new Casino on Baseline is open (grand opening last night) and the lot had many cars in it. It seemed prudent to stay away from drivers who have been gambling and drinking especially in the dusk so I started home on National Park Drive. I got to the corner where the drive turns NW and discovered the rear tire was flat. I walked the bnike a few yards to a place with a slight bit of wind protection and a place to lean the bike. I thought about trying to fix the tube but decided it made more sense to inflate it and go. I made it home with two additional air stops about 1 1/2 miles apart. I will patch the tube later and put the Stop Flat Strip in and hopefully that will be the end of flats for awhile. At least I got in a decent number of miles for the day,
